With the guidance and support of a mentor Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawke's Bay offers stability and continuity to children who could benefit from support through one to one mentoring. The consistent one-to-one adult relationship is designed to assist young persons face their everyday challenges.
Mentors advise and challenge children, act as their champions, provide greater consistency in their lives, connect them to broader experiences, opportunities, Â networks, and provide safe, non-judgmental environments in which children can confide.
We match children aged six to eleven years with mentors from the community, they get together for one hour (or more), once a week, for at least one year, preferably longer. Once they are matched the children can stay on the programme until age 18.
Our mentors create positive connections with children to help build resilience and security for brighter futures, children go on to become adults who contribute positively to society.
