The Otago Down Syndrome Association (ODSA) is a family/whanāu support organisation that provides information and support for people with Down syndrome, their families and their carers, as well as promoting their rights and interests. To achieve this the association offers the following services: 

  • Support for families who have a member with Down syndrome.
  • Information packs about Down syndrome for new families.
  • Information packs for families whose children with Down syndrome are transitioning to school.
  • Information on services available in Otago for people with Down syndrome and their families.
  • A network of people who can visit families with a diagnosis of Down syndrome - at home or in the hospital, pre, or post birth.
  • Monthly family socials for families of all ages creating opportunities for people with Down syndrome and their families to meet.
  • Active social clubs for people with Down syndrome.
  • A lending library with educational and information resources.
  • Training for teachers and teacher aides through regular courses and workshops.
  • Advocay and assistance for members as required.
  • A monthly newsletter.
  • Networks with other disability agencies such as the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association, Parent 2 Parent and the Family Network.
