Matea Trust is a registered charitable trust (CC11332) which was set up in 1992 to provide a residential service and support for people with intellectual disabilities who are physically, mentally and socially able to integrate into the existing family environment provided by Matea.
The Trust was established by two local farmers who identified a need and donated time, land, buildings and great effort to create Matea – Translated from the Maori language it means… ‘To Be Needed’ Everyone deserves to feel needed!
Matea Trust provides residential care & vocational life skills.
The ‘Homestead’ provides for up to 8 permanent residents and has a transitional respite care programme as a trial for suitability purposes. Most residents are mid to long-term depending on their requirements.
The Trust provides employment opportunities through its Vocational Service and takes on local contracts that are within its clients’ abilities, such as light work including but not limited to lawn mowing, clearing properties and cutting firewood.
The Vocational Service includes both residents from the Homestead and others from the wider community.
