Special Olympics New Zealand aims to enrich the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport.
Special Olympics New Zealand provides a year-round programme of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Each year more than 6000 athletes train and compete in 13 different Olympic-type summer and winter sports, ranging from swimming and tenpin bowling to snowboarding.
Local clubs give an opportunity for all abilities to come along for either social or competitive sport.
The sports offered by the Te Whanganui-a-Tara club are: athletics, basketball, bocce, equestrian, football, swimming and tenpin bowling.
